To
say the least the Galapagos are located in the middle of nowhere,
a land time has forgotten, where life flows at a relaxed pace.
This isolation has allowed new forms of life to develop. Evolution
played its game in the archipelago, an environment that is
harsh and so unattractive at first site hides the greatest
secret of them all: “the creation of life”.
The
islands have little by little started to become beautiful,
basic forms of plant life start giving way to rainforests,
small ponds have become lakes. The species in the Galapagos
have learned to adapt and evolve to survive. Who would think
of birds whose beak changes from one island to another, birds
that learn to swim and cannot fly anymore. All these secrets
inspired Charles Darwin in the development of his theory of
evolution. |
